The first jam

We have had our first crop of blackcurrents. The birds helped themselves to a large quantity while we were away from the house for a week. We then netted them to allow the remainder to ripen fully.

So from the remainder we decided to make jam. As you can see it is a small supply, but about three times that would be enough for us for a year. So next year they will be netted in time.

Also we have rhubarb coming along so we could try that with ginger in the spring. We missed out on the blackberries too, as we were in France, blackberry and apple are a good combination, and hopefully the apples trees will be as bountiful next year.
